Project India (EMS)

 

Today, young women are still discriminated against in Indian society. Here, girls are not as well-fed as their brothers, are forced to work, and often are not allowed to go to school. Thirteen-year-old Suji had to leave school because her grandparents could no longer afford it. But she had luck: Suji heard about a home in Chombala which is connected to an education center for young women. There, girls prepare to earn their own living, and their self-esteem is boosted in the process. Read more here

 


Project: Lebanon and Jordan (EVS)

 

The students at the Johann Ludwig Schneller School in Lebanon and the Theodor Schneller School in Jordan are between the ages of five and twenty-one and come from difficult backgrounds. The Schneller Schools offer young refugees, orphans, and poor children education and job training. Here, Christians and Muslims live side by side on campus and, together with the day students, are taught tolerance and mutual respect. Read more here

 


Project: Rwanda (Bread for the World)

 

“Isuku,” meaning “cleanliness,” is the name of an initiative which cares for street-children in Rwanda, where the shadow of genocide still hangs over the people. Thousands of children who’ve lost a parent are forced to leave school in order to help provide for their families. Isuku plucks these children off the street and offers them daily a warm meal, schooling, clothes, and soap. There is one condition: an end to working in the streets. Read more here

 

Project: Bolivia (Mission 21)

 

When Bolivians from the highlands of the Andes migrate into the cities, it often leads to a struggle to survive. The resulting tensions can also lead to interfamilial violence. However, women and children can find safety from physical and psychological abuse at the women’s home Suma Jacaňa. Here, they are informed of their rights and can rebuilt their self-worth.
